Lionsgate: Filling the Void that the House of Freddy Left.
If any studio knew from the lessons of the past, it is Lionsgate. This studio allowed us to see Kevin Smith’s “Dogma”, but CatBusRuss felt that was a Miramax film (and Smith will attest to that). The first distinctly LG film that CatBus saw was “Shadow of the Vampire”, which was technically horror, but so meta that it felt like an odd period piece.
“Saw” was the franchise that got our host’s attention. He came late to the franchise which may have been a good thing. Having to watch these flicks on DVD meant he got to see all the trailers for horror franchises that they purchased the rights to. Of those, the films of studios that went under despite make video stores so much fun means the classics are not lost. If it was not for this studio, the gore hound who curates “I Dig Crazy Flicks” may have never been.
