Please forgive CatBusRuss's attempt to impersonate the legendary Peter O'Toole during this podcast.
Nathaniel J from "At the Devil's Ball" came on to "I Dig Crazy Flicks" to discuss one of the films that was one of the go to DVDs in his dorm era, "Phantoms". It is an under-appreciated Miramax B-Movie that is probably best known as an in joke between Kevin Smith and Ben Affleck from "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back".
Russ, being a Smith devotee, took the gag to heart 15 years ago, and ended up having a great time watching that Netflix disc from the mail. Still in a spooky mood from October, our podcast host came across a Dimension Films two-pack of "The Faculty" & "Phantoms" at the local Disc/Mega Replay. It seems like the right time to determine if this Dean Koontz adaptation still holds up.
The two podcasters determine that this is a fun B-movie, but it may not be a great movie. Neither have read the Koontz novel, so it led them to ponder if this ended up being a great adaptation. Was there a grander message that was missed or was this just a fun monster film?
Thankfully, Peter O'Toole and Liev Schrieber know the assignment and make "Phantoms" worth a watch.
