Episode 293: "The Descent" (2006) with Tim Avers of "Blood Orange"
It is not another convention panel, but CatBusRuss and "Blood Orange" comic book writer, Tim Avers are collaborating once again to celebrate another film's 20th anniversary. Claustrophobia, psychopathic friends, and hungry cave dwellers...Is there a scarier horror concept than Neil Marshall's "The Descent".
These two content creators met at Tim's "Knives in My Eyes: 20 Years of 'Brick'" panel at ATL Comic Convention. It was a panel that lacked an audience, so the two were left to bounce off of each other instead of amusing fans. They were able to established chemistry quickly. As long as Tim has fun movies to celebrate, the podcast will be a slice of fried gold.
Russ came to this movie off of revisiting of Marshall's debut feature "Dog Soldiers", so he brought the knowledge of the auteur's tendencies. Tim brings the academic knowledge to the conversation. Our host is able to discuss mis en scene and learns how it can be applied to comic books from the author.
In the end, CatBus just hopes he has inspired Tim to rewatch and perhaps comeback to discuss his favorite Marshall film "Doomsday". Russ thinks a story that features a war between Scottish Punks and Renaissance Fair is certainly a winner. Tim was not that confident enough to agree without a rewatch.
