Mark L. Lester: From Director-For-Hire to Chasing the Roger Corman Dream

When I saw IFC’s “Indie Sex” documentary, there was portion of the series dedicated to the call for changing the X Rating to what is now, NC-17. It showed a letter that was endorsed by the the top 30 directors in Hollywood. Among them was the man who brought us “Commando”, Mark L. Lester. In his hey day, he was the man who gave us the action movies that lacked the sophistication for Richard Donner, John McTiernan, or one of the Scott Brothers to take on. Regardless of his lack of elegance, he was still amongst the most important directors in the world. He is now dedicated himself to producing B-Movies. Fortunately, we need someone to fill the shoes left by Roger Corman.
